Among Daiwa low profile reels, this is the reel to go for in 2015. I picked 1516SHL, 7.3 gear lefty for long-term testing, and found this is a real solid, super casting reel. Every operation feels solid, like clutch, drag clicking, control cap clicking and etc. It has little play in handle. A bit too much decoration at handle post, control cap and body top doesn't look weird because all decorations are solid on metal, not plastic. Star drag is made by metal. 90mm swayed handle is good in length, and I find no place to modify the reel at this moment. Between 1016 and 1516, 1516 has 3mm wider 28.2mm spools. Side plates are exactly the same in size for both reels. Height may be slitly larger for 1516, maybe due to larger 36mm dia spools, instead of 34mm of 1016.
