You may find mainly two ABUs here, both are limited to Japanese market. One is classic ABUs, and the other is most advanced ABUs. ABU has been quite popular in Japan since its early days '60. By the time, currency rates were so low for JPY, and an Ambassaduer 5000 costed about 1 month pay for a man. Fishing with ABU was once seen as the symbol of success. Even after Daiwa, Shimano, Ryobi and others has gained more popularity in Japan with more affordable products, ABU classic products have been quite popular, for their classic touch. The popularity was also due to dealer's efforts to "dig" demands for classic ABUs. Dealers of ABU have changed time to time in Japan, from Olympic fishing, Mamiya OP to Pure Fishing Japan. These dealers have released reproduction models of old ABUs repeatedly. They were Ambassadeur 1500C, 2500C, 4500C, 5500C, Cardial 3, 33, 44 and etc. Please check here for some history of 1500C 2500C reels in Japan.
The other is the most advanced ABU, to beat Daiwa and Shimano. To cope with the trends in pursuing casting performances, ABU releases Japan special models here. They are sometimes extreme, and first released in Japan to see demands and responses from keen customers. Many of them are not released in the USA or other market. They were Revo Elite IVCB, Elite Aurora, LTX and etc. Jun's first bait caster was ABU 1000 in silver given, and the next was ABU XLT-FL purchased.
