Jun's comment: Picked a 24 Certate 2000S-H as the river trout reel for long term testing. I will match it up with 5'3"-6' UL trout rods, 4-6lb mono or #0.6 braid lines, 3.5g-6g spoons and spinners, heavy sinking minnows in 50mm like D-Contact 50 and etc. The reel feels some dragging in handle turn compared to my 23 Airity and old Shimano Vanquish 1000 just out of box. It feels quite solid and tough. Hope this reel tunes in soon. May 2024 This one worked great on river trout fishing from banks and canoe. I didn't feel the dragging any more in actual fishing. It had almost no trouble in fishing. Cranked very smooth. Let's see how it goes. Aug 2024. This one worked so well for river trout fishing so far. It now feels much better than the out of box, and turns very light. It has been submerged in water 1m for a mistake for 5 min, but no water was in the gear box when I opened it for overhaul. Wow nice. Aug 2025.
Picked another Certate, LT4000-CXH for light off-shore game with #1.5 PE braid, specifically for Spanish Mackarel fishing and tropical reef fishing from boats. It will be matched with 7' M -MH powered rods, casting 10-20g rigs. The reel is light in weight than my comparable Shimano Stella SW4000XG, and works very smooth. It cranks up fish with power. One thing to complain is its a bit rough drag. ATD TYpe-L? is not much smooth when it starts to release lines as that of Shimano Stella SW. Aug 2025.
