Type-R reels were offered to perform the best, by reducing weight from every components from stock Daiwa TD-Z Japan, tournament model reels, at frame, gears and etc. Type-R also reduced brake force margins to add more casting distance, and the casting performance is tuned for anglers with expert level of casting ability. The trick is at Type-R spool, with modified brake rotor.
This 2002 Type-R and 2003 TD-ito reels have the same keenest casting performance among tuned TD-Z. These have the least brake force at slow - mid speed range to cast longer, and smoother. 2004 Type-R+ has more brake force, at the middle of stock TD-Z and this 2002 original Type-R.
