How to install gears to 14 Conquest reels
For 100/101 200/201
Remove screw holding handle nut retainer, handle nut, and you may remove handle, star drag, washers and a ball bearing.
Open the side plate, and remove the spool holder and spool.
Remove four screws fastening main frame and gear side cover. (shown in red circles) And you may now access to gears.
Use the stock carbon drag washer on the reel, but the metal plate inside the drive gear should be changed to the one coming in the kit. The stock metal plate is too large for the high gear.
Gears should be greased with Shimano DG-01 grease or equivalent grease.
Assemble every part you removed back, and now your reel is ready to fish.
Remember, drag capacity will be changed to the reverse proportional to gear ratio, and with high gear it will be reduced by about 20%. I offer multi-washer drag kit to twice the drag capacity.
For 300/301 400/401
Remove screw holding handle nut retainer, 11mm handle nut, and you may remove handle, star drag, washers and a ball bearing.
Remove two black screws holding the spool holder under side plate, and you may remove the black spool holder and spool.
3 screws, shown in photo in red circles, should be removed to open the gear box side. Two are inside the body frame, and the other is on the outer side plate. Please use flat head screw drivers. Philips screw drivers will damage heads for the two screws inside.
Use the stock drag washers including metal washers. Please apply hard grease like DG-13 for the carbon drag washers.
Hard grease should be used for gear teeth, like Shimano DG-07 or 13.
Assemble every part you removed back, and now your reel is ready to fish.
